Ahsan Zahir Rizvi
International arbitrator Ahsan Zahir Rizvi is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London. He is currently the Global Senior & Managing Partner of RIAA Barker Gillette, an alliance of leading international, industry-focused law firms, with presence in eleven cities in the UK, USA, Middle East and Asia.
Ahsan graduated from the London School of Economics in 1979, was called to the Bar in 1980, and undertook post-graduate studies in London and Virginia, USA. He is the recipient of the Star of Excellence (Sitara-e-Imtiaz) from the President of Pakistan and has more than four decades of experience of assisting clients in three continents in corporate, litigation and arbitration matters. He has acted as arbitration counsel and sole arbitrator in scores of matters in several jurisdictions.
Ahsan has been named amongst the ‘Best Lawyers of Pakistan’ by the Chambers Global from 2001 to- date, awarded the ‘Best Corporate Lawyer’ award by AsiaLaw, from 2006 to-date, is a former Director of the Karachi Stock Exchange, and Chairman of the Select Committee on Cyber Laws - Ministry of Information Technology, Government of Pakistan.
Ahsan has been involved with the drafting of various Pakistan laws, including legislation for the telecommunications sector, legislation for the Natural Gas sector, framework for ‘Demutualization of the Stock Exchange’, anti-smoking legislation, and anti-piracy legislation.
